Winter Ball 2008 ~ Art of Change

December 6, 2008
The Collective Renaissance Guild and the NBAF hosted a premier holiday event for Atlanta’s Urban Gen X elite at the Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead showroom. Young professionals from politics to education, hip hop to medicine, came together to celebrate their collective achievements and enjoy shared artistic traditions. Featured guests included Dr. Cornell West and Big Boi of Outkast.

Conversations & Cocktails with Wynton Marsalis

January 30, 2009 - The Collective Renaissance Guild invited an exclusive group of Atlanta's Urban Gen X from powerful leaders of the Civil Rights generation to witness the incomparable Wynton Marsalis and the acclaimed Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra perform at Atlanta Symphony Hall; then to an intimate cocktail reception and conversation with the living legend on the importance of Jazz. Celebrity personality Kenny Burns moderated a discussion with Mr. Wyton Marsalis and activist rapper Killer Mike; and guests left with an autographed copy of "Moving to Higher Ground: How Jazz Can Change Your Life" by Wynton Marsalis with Geoffrey Ward.

Power Meeting - Judith Jamieson

Purpose:

  • To expose and educate the Power Generation women about the cultural leadership
  • To honor an artistic innovator and social change agent of the proceeding generation
  • To learn from the 50 years of experience Mrs. Jamieson brings as a cultural leader
  • Keynote Speaker - Judith Jamieson & Stephanie Hughley

Impact:

  • 25 high level opinion leaders in arts, entertainment, and politics
  • Sold 100 tickets to Alvin Ailey's 50th Anniversary performance at the Fox Theatre

Class of 3000 Graduation Party

Purpose:

  • To expose and educate about the general public about the importance of arts education
  • Promote cultural leadership among Power Generation and their children
  • Honor artistic innovator of the Power Generation - Andre 3000

Impact:

  • 260 families of general public in arts, entertainment, and politics
  • Keynote speakers - Kevin Briggs (Mr. Class of 3000), Karma Bridges (Class President), & Jasmyn Clark (Miss Class of 3000)

September 4-6, 2009 - On Friday, CRG hosted the Andrew Young Men's Leadership Forum ~ an intergenerational dialogues among civic service leaders from entertainment, education, business and politics. 

On Saturday, CRG hosted 3000+ general public members to explore the opportunities for service and social entrepreneurship available through over 40 non-profit organization information booths; hear prominent leaders and personalities “Speak Out” about their cause of choice; get autographs from key authors and artists whose work reflects the mission of change; and contribute their own thoughts on change through our interactive video booth. Ambassador Andrew Young was honored for civic service, Jamie Foxx was honored for philanthropic efforts and André 3000 Benjamin was honored for artistic innovation.  Killer Mike delivered the keynote address to Power Generation.  Special Appearances and performances by Reverend Joseph Lowery, Ludacris, DeVyne Stephens, DTPs Rudy Currence, Verse Simmons, Rock City, Dance Canvas, DJ Mars and DJ Boom Bip.

On Sunday, key women leaders in the arts, business and education gathered for communal reflection on the role of women in leveraging the arts/media for social change and philanthropy. Renaissance Woman 2009 Recipients were Kysha Cameron, Judge Glenda Hatchett and Evelyn Lowery.
